Classes & Programs

Social, Ballroom, & Exhibition Dance Classes

The Academie is the leader in partnership dance instruction. We host the only nationally certified Ballroom dance instructor/adjudicator/examiner in Alaska and on Maui. Group classes (often called "Step Classes"), allow students an easy way to learn the basic foot placements/patterns to dance. Private lessons pick up where Groups end. Privates offer a more in depth understanding of basic fundamentals, lead/follow, style, and individual interpretation. Studio classes are offered to all ages and levels.

Junior 1 & Junior 2 Dance Classes

The Junior program is based on the nationally recognized "Kid's In Motion" dance project. This is a certified program that teaches children to discover dance from the 'inside out'...not the outside in. A child's natural and individual understanding and concept of dance and movement is developed into a better understanding of structured dance forms. This is unlike most programs that teach traditional and mandatory dance form regardless of one's understanding or ability. Jr. 1 is for ages 5 - 8. Jr. 2 is for ages 9--12.

Teen & Young Adult (TYA) Dance Classes

This program is divided into 3 parts:

Classroom: A social dance program covering all social dances including Ballroom, Latin,  

                   Swing, and Freestyle.

Competition & Exhibition: Look like the competitors on television. Persons taking this

                                         program are not required to compete or perform. The class 

                                         emphasizes the techniques and artistry of this higher form of

                                         dance.

Repertory Company: One of less than 5 semi-professional or professional Ballroom dance

                                  based theatre companies. Some Jazz, Tap, Cabaret, Flamenco, and

                                  Theatre Arts included.

Adult Performance Style Dance Class

Seasoned performer or accomplished dancer; rank beginner or someone just searching for a new, fun pastime...this class is for everyone.

Learn the basic fundamentals of performance style dancing such as:

· * more striking presence and movement through better upper body and arm styling

· * improvements and embellishments on known social dances while also learning the

many dances of Ballroom, Broadway, and Cabaret.

Balladagio Theatrical Performance Company

One of less than 10 such companies in the U.S, Balladagio is a Ballroom dance company that combines all forms of dance into traditional Ballroom and Latin dance to create a unique and exciting product. The company performs a fully staged musical once or twice a year, and has performed locally and nationally. The repertory is open to all dancers...levels and ages. Membership in the company is by audition and / or appointment.
